The diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease which develops as a complication of the diabetes. High blood sugar level leads to the infringemen of blood vessels, including vessels of the retina. Such «weak» vessels become the reason of hemorrhages and bleedings leading to sharp decrease in visual acuity and sometimes to blindness.
